60. Jessica Pounders - A Family Story
Jonathan and Jessica had been married four years when they learned Jessica was pregnant. Soon after, Jonathan was deployed to Savannah Georgia with the navy and Jessica went home to MS to be with family. While at a doctor's appointment eager to find out the gender of the baby she was surprised to learn that her baby girl would have a birth defect called gastroschisis, where the intestines are outside the body. The doctor told Jessica there would be hospitalizations and multiple surgeries involved after the baby was born.
It was then that Jonathan and Jessica found the fetal medicine doctors at Le bonheur to help monitor the pregnancy.
Once their daughter, Mollie, was born she stayed at Le bonheur for 6 months before coming home. During her stay she underwent multiple surgeries as predicted and was even flown to an out of state hospital for a short time.
Since then the family has learned how to nurse Mollie in their home although still experiencing necessary hospitalizations. For years they traveled to multiple hospitals out of state for the best care possible.
The family lives in MS using Le Bonheur GI doctors to maintain Mollie’s care. Mollie is now 8 years old and has a younger sister, Jill who is 6 years old. Mollie goes to school, plays sports and is active in serving her church. Jonathan and Jessica have received much support from family, community and their Le Bonheur team to help Mollie get to this point in her journey.
